High magnification view of an area of elastic cartilage that comprises the central core of the epiglottis. Cartilage-forming cells, the chondrocytes (Ch) are abundant and are surrounded by cartilage matrix, which here has a high quantity of elastic connective tissue fibres (El) which in this H&E-stained preparation, stain pink.
