High magnification view of a longitudinal section through a number of myelinated nerve axons. The endoneurium (EN) is a thin layer of delicate connective tissue (blue) that surrounds each nerve fiber. In this tissue, the myelin (My) wrappings do not stain well as lipids are removed in the tissue processing. The central axon (Ax) is visible as is a nucleus (NC) of a neurolemmal cell which invests each myelinated axon in concentric wrappings of cell membrane. The junction between two adjoining neurolemmal cells presents a slight gap - Node of Ranvier (NR).
