High magnification view of a small portion of one nerve fascicle cut in
cross section. The axon (Ax) is pale and central within each myelinated
nerve, and is surrounded by concentric wrappings of the neurolemmal cell
plasma membrane - myelin (My). The junction between two adjoining neurolemmal
cells presents a slight gap - Node of Ranvier (NR). Also seen here are
the oval nuclei of the neurolemmal cells (NCN).
