Slide # 4 - Loose fibroelastic connective tissue - plasma cell

High magnification view of an area of loose (areolar) fibroelastic connective tissue (CT) from the lamina propria layer of the esophagus mucous membrane. The over lying epithelial layer (Epith) is seen at the left, and the lamina propria on the right. The most common cell type in this tissue is the fibroblast (Fb). There are also a number of thin-walled blood vessels (BV) in this tissue and each is lined with a simple layer of squamous epithelium (SsqEp). Immediately under the epithelium, look for additional connective tissue cells types that are involved in the immune system. For example, in the field are small lymphocytes (Ly) and plasma cells (PC).
