High magnification image of a dermal papilla containing a specialized sensory nerve ending - Meissner's Corpuscle (MC). The corpuscle is surrounded by a capsular layer of connective tissue (C), and consists of a spiralled nerve axon (not seen here), surrounded by neurolemmal or Schwann cells (SC). Also seen here is the stratum basalis (SB) and stratum spinosum (SS) of the epidermis.
